Blue Ridge Mountain Pickleball – Franklin NC
by Nancy Falkenstein
Blue Ridge Mountains Pickleball is in Franklin, N.C. (Macon County)…we are in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Our group has been playing Pickleball about 8 years and was started by Jan Sharp, Ambassador in Macon County, when she brought it up from Ft.Myers, Fl. We have a core group of abou5 15 players during the winter months, and in the summer can grow to 39-40 people. Macon County is seasonal so we have players who come during the warmer months to play with us. We play at the Veteran’s Memorial Park outside on 2 courts, shared with a basketball court; this winter we have one court inside at Cowee Historic School in the gym on a lovely wooden floor….this works well for the small number of players in winter. We will have 4 outside courts at the Parker Meadows Recreation Complex located about 3 miles west of Franklin off of Hwy 64 when they are complete. These courts will be shared with basketball as well. We have a small group of players that travel to tournaments from time to time, and also play with other Pickleball groups in the area.
