STAY N PLAY – WEEKLY FEATURE
North Carolina Pickleball – On The Road
Summer travel will be here before you know it and pickleball is sure to be on the list. This past summer I had an opportunity to pay at several venues while visiting out West and it was a blast. Today, we take you to the hills of Georgia.
The Georgia Mountain Pickleball Club in Hiawassee is getting 8 new outdoor courts this summer overlooking Lake Chatuge and our mountains. And to celebrate the event, we are holding the 1st Pickleball Classic on September 18-19, 2015, a non-sanctioned tournament.
Won’t you and your folks please come?
On Friday, 9/18, we’ll have a round robin limited to 10 teams in each of 3 brackets (depending on registration). Brackets will be decided by IFP rankings only (3.0 and under, 3.5-4.0, and 4.5-5.0), without regard to age or gender. Friday evening, we’ll have a meet-and-greet and a dinner of Jim’s Smoking Barbeque and specially created pickleball cake, all with a large side of live music. On Saturday, 9/19, we’ll have a double elimination tournament, again limited to 10 teams in those 3 IFP skill brackets. On Saturday afternoon, we’ll hand out medals and prizes. Prizes will include, but not be limited to, pickleball equipment and Fall Festival tickets.
Rodney “Rocket” Grubs will be competing and will staff an emporium of pickleball necessities and delights. The Rocket will also have a clinic in Hiawassee on Monday, 9/21. You can register by emailing me separately.
We have resorts, hotels, B&B’s, and camping for you and your family. We have dining to suit pretty much every taste and cuisine. We have biking, cycling, hiking, fishing, golfing, antiquing, reading, daydreaming, music, and resting. We have the leaves beginning to turn. It’s beautiful here in September and October.
